Vishaal Mohan on ‘Abhimanyu Ki Love Story’: ‘I don’t want to restrict myself to one image as an actor’

Actor Vishaal Mohan is gearing up for the release of his film Abhimanyu Ki Love Story, which is set to hit theatres on October 30. The film, earlier titled Yadav Ji Ki Love Story, revolves around love, relationships and the challenges that come with standing up for one’s feelings. With projects like Aashiqui Imtehaan Leti Hai and Mehndi 2 in the pipeline, Vishaal is looking forward to exploring different characters and taking on new challenges as an actor.

Talking about the change in the film’s title, Vishaal says, “The film was originally called Yadav Ji Ki Love Story. However, after taking into consideration the hurt feelings of the Yadav community, we decided to change the title to keep everyone happy. It was then named “Abhimanyu Ki Love Story.”

Describing the film, the actor says that it is not just a love story but one that offers a mix of emotions. “The film will make audiences laugh and cry. It has emotional depth and also conveys a good message,” he says.

Vishaal plays Wasim Akhtar in the film, a character he took time to understand before stepping into the role. Recalling his conversations with director Sandeep Tomar, he says, “I took the narration three to four times. After listening to it, I asked him how Wasim Akhtar would come across as a hero. But once I understood the character and his journey, I realised what made him special. From the beginning to the end, Wasim never gives up, even when he has to make sacrifices. He holds on to his identity and stands firm for his love. He does not let his love be defamed or allow it to fall apart.”

The film was shot entirely in different parts of Delhi. According to Vishaal, the story follows the relationship between Wasim Akhtar and Simple Yadav, tracing their journey from the beginning to its conclusion. The way their love story unfolds forms the central part of the film.

Speaking about his journey so far, Vishaal says that every project has contributed to his growth as an actor. “This experience has helped strengthen the foundation of my acting career. Before this, I worked on a film with a budget of around ₹100 crore, but unfortunately, it did not perform well. After that, I shot for Aashiqui Imtehaan Leti Hai, followed by Yadav Ji Ki Love Story, which is now titled Abhimanyu Ki Love Story.”

The actor has also signed Mehndi 2 and is preparing to make his debut in South Indian cinema as a villain opposite Gol Aadisai. With more projects lined up, he hopes to keep moving forward and take on opportunities that challenge him.

For Vishaal, the aim is to avoid being typecast and explore the full range of his abilities. “I am an actor, and I don’t want to restrict myself to one particular image. I want to play different kinds of characters. There are heroes and villains, and even within those categories, there are so many shades to explore. Through every role, I want audiences to feel that they are watching a completely different character, not the same Vishaal every time. I have tried to bring that variety to my upcoming films as well,” he says.
