US-based Indian fashion designer and couturier Anjali Phougat, founder of the label Designer Dream Collection, counts herself among Shah Rukh Khan’s many admirers. Ahead of the superstar’s birthday on November 2, she spoke about what his journey and his most loved film mean to her.

She said, “Shah Rukh Khan’s journey is a powerful reminder that our beginnings do not define our destiny. He arrived with a dream and the courage to pursue it, eventually creating a place for himself on the global stage. As a fashion designer and couturier, I deeply relate to the idea of creating something extraordinary without waiting for the perfect circumstances.”

“In fashion, too, you have to trust your vision, challenge conventions, and sometimes create your own opportunities rather than wait for someone to open a door. His story inspires me because it proves that when talent meets perseverance and self-belief, boundaries can become possibilities. Whether in cinema or couture, you must have the courage to believe in your vision before the world believes in it.”

Talking about the actor, who is often called the King of Romance, Anjali picked Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge as the film she loves the most. She said, “It beautifully captures love, family, tradition, and the balance between following your heart and respecting your roots. What makes the film timeless is its emotional connection with audiences across generations and cultures.”

From a fashion perspective too, she appreciates how the film created an enduring visual identity. “The styling, silhouettes, and iconic looks became part of popular culture, demonstrating how costumes can become as memorable as the characters themselves. As a designer, I believe fashion is a powerful form of storytelling,” she said.

“It communicates emotion, personality, and cultural identity without words. The film reminds me that when storytelling and style come together authentically, they can create a legacy that transcends time,” she added.
